Being afraid to look bad?????
OH we might touch a nerve here with this one. What is it that makes people (in the majority though absolutely not all) want to say and do stupid shit?
Out of fear of looking bad, perhaps?
IT seems to me that the society we live amongst today wishes to look good all of the time and fears the concept of any other person seeing that they may not know something or may be a different kind of person than they thought they actually were. I mentioned that not all is absolutely not the case, those who call it like it is over the position of popularity; they definitely are my type of people.
Which one are you?
A right is a right and a wrong is a wrong, although two people can be right about the same thing and still have different opinions and still remain right. Yes the example that comes to mind is the 6 and the 9 written on the ground between two people. From one perspective it is definitely a six while from the opposite persons perspective it is indeed a nine. Both can argue until they die about being right and the facts of what they see will never change and so their opinion and view will not change either. Until the precise moment that person A or person B decides to have a look from the other point of view. When we alter our own view point and take a small little peek out at the other person’s point of view we may then change our opinion or mind about anything.
I wanna say it was Ghandi though it might have been plato, who said that “speaking the truth no matter how unpopular it is” is way more important than being popular. Though the world wide interweb now employs fact checkers (who may not be so truthful themselves) to monitor what may be the truth and not the truth around the web so that the supposed “truth” narrative is maintained. And how many times have we seen substantial “conspiracy theories” debunk all the fact checkers? A control of what looks and sounds good is spread to each and everybody every day by way of internet. Many people willing to fake some stuff to look good.
Then there is of course the dollars aspect. People are willing to sell their souls and could not care about truth when it comes to having money in the bank. Who cares if the product does not do what it says on the tin. It sells doesn’t it? So we are accepting of poor quality products and a constant fleecing of monies all because it is the popular way of life in our modern times. And of course we do not wish to look bad by our surrounding standards. To this I always say f**k THAT!
What are the consequences? What is it we are willing or have been willing to sacrifice for this way of life? What do you give up in your day to be popular? Is there a need to be fake as part of our “new normal”. Where do loyalty and “old school” values go? Will you lie to sound cool and will you lie to make a sale and get that money?
I gave some time in my own life, once upon a time in sales and it was all about using the tongue and the power of speaking and to get the money out of their pocket and in to mine. I wish I could label it some different way and tell you how I provided the best service in return for my client’s funds and 100 % of my clients were completely satisfied each and every time. Those times were not about “a hustle” they were about getting money from people and providing them a product in return. A hustle would be something where one promises the sun the moon and the stars and then provides nothing or nothing even close to what the client believed they were buying. I can honestly say, the workload was going to happen anyway and that was just something to do. The sales piece was all about money out of their bank and in to mine. Would I lie when making a sale? Not particularly though I can recall offering and saying things I knew were not true and I had no intention of doing simply to close the deal. I excused myself across the board of any ill will or misrepresentation or of doing bad as I was in business of providing to my clients that which they desired for a fee. They walked away happy and under the umbrella of “business” I made and closed deals day and night.
We hear it all of the time now that some new truth or other is exposed every day. The pharmaceutical companies and how the drugs game is really about how the prescription drugs are almost force fed upon society now with pharmacies on every street corner. Remember when pills and “drugs” of the prescription kind were a small or one aisle in a supermarket? And now they are super stores for drugs and prescriptions. We have been sold an idea that we might get better if we take these prescription medicines, and the truth people who are conspiracy theory people are saying that all the side effects and secondary effects of the medicine are making us much worse on the sly. Is that a fair standard of truth?
Electric vehicles are the way of the future and the whole noise about a “carbon footprint” yet it takes a whole bunch of mining and child labour to create enough minerals to operate one electric vehicle car battery. Are we buying in again to lies for the sake of some companies profits?
An issue I have raised with some friends in the past has been that the climate change concept is not something we need raise with our children. The response being that “it is very important for our children as it is their future”. Fair enough was my initial reply followed with—
“how about we stress the kids out about something in their own community first? How about we get children hyped up and stressed out about making a better environment and community right in front of their own eyes and help them to build something they can see and touch and understand as they grow older, something that they have contributed tp and made a difference and they can show their own children how they worked hard for their own community first?”
— As opposed to the big atmosphere up there miles above our heads. The ozone and the atmosphere is not something we can touch and feel and understand and especially not in a young persons mind. So why prey on them?
How about the idea of how economists have reviewed the economic status of the globe and understood that in order to sustain large bank balances and retirement plans for the currently employed, we better figure out a way to increase a taxation system where we can sustain our own lives first. Oh yes was the thought, let us create a climate action plan and make everybody abide by it and slip it in to society under some form of taxation. This will be how we secure our future, by selling a concept of future to be atmospheric and not economic. Finances win out and lies are spread at what cost?
You me and the fella beside you have what it takes to be what? In the “woke” people section? Not particularly, no. We do however have a beginning point of how we might be able to move from our own point of view position and begin to look from another angle. I know that I never provided a bad service in my days of making sales and so I feel okay about that. Do I feel bad to speak up about a bad service received? NO. Trouble is the population around me is willing to accept inferior service and continue paying and not make an effort to bring about any change for the good. So the crooks continue to get away with it as long as we are all subscribing to the bull droppings. There are a few business models that you never even notice and you may very well have never thought about, “what if I take a different viewpoint. What might I see?” Here is one for ya, the monthly TV subscription. Cable or satellite, whichever one you use. One, being me or you will pay for a monthly service so that we can have on demand channels available to us all of the time at the switch of a button. Given that there are 24 hours in each day and for the sake of round numbers, 30 days in one month. 30 days times 24 hours per day are a grand total of 720 hours. Now the question is how many of these hours am I using this service? I watch the morning shows or some news before heading out to work and then in the evenings I like a little bit of brain drain viewing before bed to relax me. Let’s just allow for this as some normal viewing. I might watch then in total 1 hour in the morning and two hours in the evening or night which gives me a total of 3 hours per 24 hour day. Which means I am paying for 21 hours a day that I do not use? Ahh yes though I am being charged for the convenience of having it there for whenever I want it. So the 21 hours I am not using this service times the 30 days in the month means I am paying for 630 hours of something I do not use. Ask your provider about rebates for all the hours I never use the service and good luck with that. Tell me another service you pay for so willingly and never use? I’ll wait…………………………………..
You would not hire a gardener and pay them for all the time they do not spend working on your garden, would you? You would not go in and pay a restaurant for all the times that you do not enter and have a meal and you would not pay for fuel for your car or truck that you do not get to pump in and drive away with.
So to go back to beginning, there are a whole bunch of nonsense and not true stuff out there that we accept in daily life because we may have been lied to and we have become accepting all the way round. We even go one step further and begin to participate in the nonsense ourselves and use social media outlets as part of an extension of ourselves and our personal lives. Fake photos of life and being places that look fabulous and having nights out with bottle service and VIP status and expensive holidays. For what? An expensive credit card debt or worse? A fatigue that keeping up appearances is more important than being real? The best way to close my eyes and pretend to myself that none of it is happening is to join in and take the prescription medication and keep my TV bills so that I can be part of the special scandal and even more special lifestyle.
We all want to be seen to make the world a better place yet we do nothing to better it. Family is the first community and then the extension of that is the community you live in. What are you doing there to make a difference? Have you sacrificed simple matters of old school values to be in the rat race and keep the Ferris wheel going? Everybody wants to jump on social media and call out fake news when nobody wants to call out fake friends or recognise that the backbone of society is becoming weaker all of the time and we all are having a hand in helping it along.
I can safely say that I will not lose any sleep over whether or not you pay your TV bills and I will not lose any sleep over whether I recycle my waste and will that make a difference to mining companies or polluting factories or electric vehicle car manufacturing. I will not lose any sleep over whether or not you see the gimmicks and how you have been sold ideas and concepts that perhaps do not suit you as a person. I will always call it like I see it and I will continue to possess the ability to see it from your point of view. There is little you can do when you are willing to sacrifice being real for truth and personality over popularity and image.
I always remember the great advertising slogan that was for sprite I believe it was that said “Image is nothing, obey your thirst” Clever and daring for them to make such a statement.
Keep on enjoying the truth and keeping it REAL as you see it and far be it for me to call you out on it because that would not be real. Change can only happen on a one person at a time basis and your community needs you to wake up and find what has been missing for many years now. Make a difference in the world by beginning with you as one person first. Then we might see the ripple effect spread.
